It happened when I was buying imitation crab at the store. In the U.S., they are sold under various names; Imitation Crab Stick, Fish Cake, Crab Stick, and so on. It is called “Kani-kama” in Japanese.
After the recent kamaboko incident, I was carefully looking at the ingredients on the package of imitation crab. Then I saw the word “Wheat” on the allergy label! 😵.
I was surprised, so I looked at another package of imitation crab and again saw the word “wheat”! 😵.
All three manufacturers (Shirakiku, Kabuto, and Osaki) had wheat in their products.

What, do I have to give up eating imitation crab now? I was about to be very sad, but then I discovered that Kibun’s imitation crabs are gluten-free! 😮💨

Kibun is indeed a friend of the gluten intolerant! No, let me tell you, so as not to mislead you, I am not a Kibun impersonator.
The quantities are all the same, 1.1 lb (500g). The prices were $4 for Shirakiku and Kabuto, $10 for Osaki, and $6 for the gluten-free Kibun, so this is not just a matter of price.

Anyway, now I can continue to eat imitation crab with peace of mind.
